Suppressing Products Temporarily

Overview

Occasionally, there is a need to temporarily suppress a product(s) from your online catalog (e.g. you only want to sell the product in-store during a promotional period of time).

You can hide or suppress a product using the Volusion Admin area.

You will need the unique SKU or Product Code for the product(s) to be suppressed.

Instructions to Suppress

  1. Login to your Volusion Admin area.
  2. Go to INVENTORY / Products
  3. Click [SEARCH] button
  4. Enter the unique product SKU in the "Code:" field and click the blue [SEARCH] button in the top-right corner (not the grey search button)
  5. In the resulting list, click the SKU link
  6. Scroll down to the "Advanced Info" area and click the "Advanced Info" heading to display the details under it (if not already displayed)
  7. Click "Product Display" in the left margin of the Advanced Info section
  8. Enable the "Hide Product" checkbox
  9. Enter a date in the past (e.g. yesterday) into the "Display End Date" field in MM/DD/YYYY format (or use the calendar widget to select a date in the past)
  10. Click blue [SAVE] button
The "Hide Product" field only suppresses the product from category listings and search results, but not from search engine links or bookmarks that go directly to the product detail page. This is why you need the "Display End Date" field to also be populated with a date that is before today (e.g. yesterday).

Instructions to Revert Back to Normal

Follow the above instructions to get back to the SKU which you previously suppressed. But this time, disable (uncheck) the "Hide Product" checkbox and also clear the date from the "Display End Date" field. Then click the blue [SAVE] button. The product should now be available in the catalog as per normal.
